Fotoskool 2021 veranderinge

Hallo Fotoskolers,

Liewe Fotoskolers,

FotoFunatix speletjie

'n Laaste nota.

My oplaag van FotoFUNatix speletjies is byna uitverkoop. In Clarens by Bibliophile boekwinkel. Jy kan ook direk by my bestel teen R250.00 wat aflewering in SA insluit (as jy naby Pep Stores is, word dit daar afgelewer).

Sjoe, ek hoop alles maak sin!

Geniet die week!!

Groete

Igno

Liewe Fotoskolers,

Lank lewe Fotoskool.

Johan Ayres

Gratis e-boek in PDF formaat

Algemene opmerkings

Minimalisme is ‘n baie groot onderwerp waaroor baie gepubliseer is.

Famous Minimalist Art That Defined the Genre

Grace Ignacia See en op 6 Junie 2019 gepubliseer.

Grace See se omskrywing van minimalisme lui as volg:

Minimalism as a genre occupies various forms of expression across art, design, music, and literature. Developed in the United States in the 1960s, it surfaced as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism. Minimalist artists sought to move away from the expressive characteristics of Abstract Expressionism as they felt those works to be too excessive and emotional, and that they detracted from the essence of art itself. Minimalist artists, in complete contrast, were composed of simple lines and forms. All the elements of expression, biography, complex subjects, and social agendas are removed, leaving viewers to interpret their works for what they are - a purified form of beauty and truth.

Iemand anders stel dit as volg: Several important characteristics identify Minimalist Art. One of the most common is repetition, or creating multiple images of the same shape, especially simple geometric forms like lines and squares.

Nog ‘n omskrywing: “Minimalism is humble, plain and relies on the viewer to make the interpretation and meaning. Void of detail, minimalism expresses the bare necessity in form, value, shape, line and texture. It’s been often called bare”

Gevolgtrekking

 Untitled. Dan Flavin

8349370060?profile=original

     Untitled. Dan Flavin

Flavin explored the artistic possibilities of fluorescent light, limiting his practice to commercially available materials. Rejecting the aforementioned notions of Abstract Expressionism, he took to using such hardware and inserted them into the world of high art. Incredibly straightforward, this work also embodies a deep sophistication.

Flavin’s light works wash walls with colors and go beyond the space they inhabit. They also go beyond their sculptural entity to bathe visitors in warm and artificial glows, creating experiences around them.

Agnes Martin. With my back to the world (1997)

Agnes Martin made works that were non-representational, yet their titles highlighted a strong allure to nature. Martin was known for the grid work in her paintings that blend together Minimalism and Colour Field. She used these grids as an organizational element to her works, creating infinite variations of calming canvases with subtle colors.

8349370471?profile=original

Ellsworth Kelly. Red Yellow Blue II (1953)

“Through a rigorous study of abstraction, his paintings and sculptures went on to develop Minimalism as a whole. The ‘Red Yellow Blue’ series affected the course of color-field painting and was created as Kelly began to “uncover the nearly infinite possibilities of monochrome, color spectrum, chance ordering, and multi-panel composition.”

Two blue panels unify the sequence on both ends, underlining Kelly’s understanding of composition.

Frank Stella. Die Fahne Hoch (1959)

A painter, sculptor, and printmaker, Frank Stella is considered to be one of the most influential living American artists. His striped works and monumental prints revolutionized artistic practices in relation to not only Minimalism but also Abstraction. Whilst he cites abstract artists such as Pollock and Kline as his influences, he grew to become one of the founding fathers of Minimalism.

8349370486?profile=original

                   Judy Chicago. Rainbow Pickett (1965)

By creating works that test the limits of color through her self-designed diagrams and spatial patterning, Judy Chicago grew to be known as a pioneering Minimal and Feminist artist

Created for her first solo show at the Rolf Nelson Gallery in Los Angeles in January 1966, Rainbow Pickett is a room-sized sculptural installation composed of six trapezoids of different colors and lengths.

8349369484?profile=original

Eva Hesse, Untitled (Rope Piece) (1970)

A German-born American sculptor, Eva Hesse is best-known for her pioneering work in latex, fiberglass, and plastic. She is also known as one of the artists who ushered in the post-minimal art movements in the 1960s. In the spirit of Minimalism, Hesse’s practice explored how the simplest of materials could be used to exemplify much more. Standing out from the traditional neatness of Minimalism, it is through its modes of composition that allows it to be perceived within the genre.

Brilliant Examples of Minimal Art

We’ve previously described Minimalism as a perspective that “less is more.” We don’t mean that there’s less going on in minimal art, or that there’s less to enjoy, but that minimal art does more with less. A great work of minimal art stands apart as something specific that can be appreciated by anyone at any time in any context simply for what it is.

         Susan Cantrick.

This acrylic painting on linen is one of 8 medium-scale paintings that Cantrick produced for her 2012 series based on the prose poem "The Pebble" by Francis Ponge.

The parallel between the poem and the paintings has to do with the physical disintegration of an aggregate and its consequences for the integrity of the disintegrated object. The largest of the paintings, a diptych that evolved from a photo taken from a window in the artist’s studio, served as a matrix that Cantrick digitally deconstructed and reconstructed into studies for the 8 paintings on linen as well as a series of small-scale mixed-media works on paper.

8349370659?profile=original

                      Frank Stella.

The painter Frank Stella is another minimal artist who explored the practice of shaped canvases. Stella’s Harran II is a shaped work that depicts a series of brightly colored arcs contained within a series of squares and arched triangles. Today this work is iconic among Stella’s oeuvre. It perfectly depicts what has come to be considered his signature visual language: cut out, brightly colored shapes joined with other shapes. But prior to working with shaped canvases, Stella made an even more profound contribution to Minimalism with his so-called black paintings, which depicted black lines in a geometric pattern. His work has been called “The holy grail of minimalism”

8349370668?profile=original

Brent Hallard - Knot. (Pink) 2015

An excellent example of the hard edge can be found in the work of the contemporary American artist Brent Hallard. Hallard’s work continues the Minimalist conversation by exploring geometry through monochromatic colors, exactitude and precision.

Why so much?
And if you want to own a piece of this history be prepared to pay big! Minimalism represents a cultural change. Today there are many spin offs, in the 60’s and early 70’s they were pioneers. Love, hate it, don’t understand it… minimalism is a breath of fresh air in a complicated world especially in the 60‘s when the style peaked and art, music and culture was reinvented.

“Minimalist photography is a form of photography that is distinguished by extreme, austere simplicity. It emphasizes sparseness and focuses solely on the smallest number of objects in the composition process.” Wikipedia.

“The most important characteristics of this art movement include; simplicity (where no excessive subject matters are utilized), repetitions (where artists employ repetitive colors and lines in the artworks), geometric shapes (where rectangles and circles are often employed in the painting to convey a sense of simpleness and coherence)”. Wikipedia

“Minimalist photography focuses on simplicity and its artistic style can be encapsulated by the quote, "less is more." Minimalist photographers achieve this effect by casting aside all the unnecessary components in creating their works. Wikipedia

“Minimalism is a very subjective concept in the art world. The Webster dictionary defines it as follows: A style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity. Some love it, others hate it, but no one seems to be indifferent.” Valery Jardin.

“The goal of minimalist art, or photography, is to convey a concept – or an idea – provoke an emotional response, or provide a unique visual experience. Compositional elements must be kept to a minimum, and the ones that are left should be essential for conveying the overall idea, or symbolism, of the photo.”
